]]> Hammond Clock Company of Chicago, Illinois was founded in 1928 by Laurens Hammond, also the inventor of the Hammond Organ.  The Hammond Clock Company produced electric clocks from 1928 to 1941 when the company was realigned and renamed to The Hammond Instrument Company.  This new company focused on production of the Hammond Organ and clock production was discontinued. 

In 1928, Hammond invented a clock motor that was synchronous to the frequency of the current supplied by the power grid.  This ensured a very accurate electric clock for its day.  Hammond electric clocks are not self-starting, so if there was a power outage, and there were many in those days, the clock motor would have to be restarted using a small knob in the back.  There were other electric clocks being produced during this time, however the Hammond electric clocks all had this characteristic little knob on the back to restart the motor after a power outage.

Hammond Clock Company made over 100 different models of clocks ranging from blue collar affordable to exclusive expensive using many different materials.

]]> If you are a serious Antique Clock collector and have spent any considerable time around Antique Clocks you have probably found a great buy or that special clock you wanted but needed a bit of repair.  Sometimes finding the correct replacement parts for an antique clock is harder then finding the original clock itself.

This is where eBay comes in.  Where else will you be able to find such a large selection of antique clock parts and vintage clocks sold for parts.  I've even run through auctions where clocks were being sold as "parts only" to see the clock is repairable in its original form, just needs some TLC and a few harder to find parts. 

If you are patient and check daily, you can find the part you need on eBay to repair your antique clock project or pick up some spares.  Let's face it, they DO NOT make clocks like they used to and the craftmanship is unique to the vintage clocks we collect, so scouring eBay for spare parts is an excellent idea.Other Interesting Posts:

Antique cuckoo clocks come in two movments: 1 day (30 hour) and 8 day and usually sound the cuckoo at both full hours and half hours. Cuckoo clocks usually have decorative cast iron weights, mostly in the shape of pine cones, and the cuckoo sound generated by two gedackt pipes. The movement activates the bellows and sends a puff of air through each pipe giving it's distinctive cuckoo sound.
